I found this fascinating:
As anyone with eyes and a brain can tell you, news is just another way to fill the gap between commercials. Maybe this analysis can be used to dynamite the corporate powers into recognizing that well-reported news draws eyeballs, and that restoring media funding thereby creates once again newsrooms that actually report news and make money.
Hey, a guy can dream.
IN TRYING TO determine whether the quality of local news segments had any relation to ratings, the researchers behind the book "We Interrupt This Newscast" had to design a reliable measure of quality. They asked a team of widely respected TV news directors, news executives, and producers to put together a list of attributes that they all agreed defined good journalism. . . .
Analyzing their results, the researchers found a strong correlation between high quality scores and high ratings.
